Having a bit of a nightmare with this
I'm trying to swap from an old Digifire 7.1 card (Having recording issues with the mic) so I thought I'd try on board sound. Enabled it, installed driver and ran - everything was hunkey-dorey. So I thought great, next task, add the front audio connector in, so when I plug the headset in, the main speakers cut out (so I hoped!).... Threee hours later I'm left banging my head on *** table and just can't seem to get it to work (AC97 on board as Gigabyte K8NS).
On the MB I have
1: Mic
2 : GND
3 : MIC_Bias
4 : Power
5 : Front R
6 : Rear R / Return R
7 : NC
8 : (No Pin)
9 : Front L
10 : Rear L / Return L
Now the cable to my front audio has the following :
Ear Left
2nd Ear left (connected to first via small jumper wire)
Ear Right
2nd Ear Right (connected to first via small jumper wire)
GND
Mic
Mic VCC
As a default 10/9 and 6/5 are jumpered together... and sound via the rear works fine.
Now I connected
1: Mic=Mic
2 : GND=GND
3 : MIC_Bias=Mic VCC
4 : Power
5 : Front R=Ear R
6 : Rear R / Return R=2nd Ear R
7 : NC
8 : (No Pin)
9 : Front L=Ear L
10 : Rear L / Return L=2nd Ear R
And sound works fine out the back still. When I plug the headphones in though I get sound out the headphone and the speakers still. Even If I change the headphone mode the L/R main speakers still work.
My only thoguhts is that I need "power" connector which disbales the rear port or something, but as I'm stuck I wondered if anyone could enlighten me...
Oh well maybe back to the old sound card!
