FA Cup **Spoilers**

Nah, we learn from your mistakes ;)

doh! :o

i heard somewhere earlier about dalglish being manager until end of season. thing is you might be doing bad, and rafa confuses himself most the time, but changing manager now could de-stablise the team even more (we should know).

who would replace rafa anyway?

Deschamps or Koeman for me (or Hodgson if he would leave Fulham).

At the moment I'd take Domenech over Rafa though, at least he'd give us something to laugh at!

It depends on how many years you choose to go back, as I see it they reached 6th in 96/97 stayed there consistently for six seasons directly preceding the take-over.

Yup if you go back 50 years Chelsea won a league title.

I took the Premier League as "recent" history.

That gave me 10 seasons on which to see the finishes.

The question was though where were they as a team when Abramovich took over not what is their EPL record, they were a consistently top 6 team by the time RA came in.

Can we stop this incredibly boring conversation about Chelsea's league positions please? No-one cares but Gustov and a collection of pedants.

I'm a pedant, and as club specific threads are banned, I'll continue the conversation :)

^^ I disagree. In the 7 seasons prior to Abramovich's arrival, not once did they fail to place in the top 6. That's pretty consistent; looking back further isn't really necessary as most sides (and backroom) change considerably over a 7 year period.

However, I still believe Gustov was out of line for jumping down some guys throat for insinuating that Chelsea weren't regularly finishing in the top 3; they only managed it once prior to RA in the Premiership era.

It hurts me watch liverpool lately especially lucas wtf is rafa thinking playing him my little sister is better then him. Rafa needs to go but we cant afford to sack him we dont have no more money left in till we get them yanks out. Our season was over in november and kiss bye bye to the champions league next year man city got that 4th spot.

What's Lucas done so wrong to deserve being singled out? He's done far better than a lot of his teammates of late and that includes captain 'not so fantastic' yet he seems immune from criticism.

Are we not counting the other years they failed to finish top 6? :p

I took 10 years as a good indication of where Chelsea were before the Russian took over.

Over those 10 years Chelsea averaged 7th/8th (or 6th if you don't want to count the times they finished outside of the top 6)

Gustov was just being childish.

Unfortunately most fellow reds have just singled him out for critiscism - almost a scapegoat - he has really improved from last season and has been doing consistently well recently - unlike SG. Lucas passes the ball well on the ground and nearly always reaches its target (not so much with chipped balls) and he runs around a lot and gets stuck in.

I think our back line is severely lacking - Carra for some reason can only play the crappest long balls - It makes such a difference if the CB's can bring the ball out of defense -sadly only agger can. If any player should be critiscised it should be skrtel - whenever that fool is on the pitch - rash, very badly timed tackles and the worst positional sense you have ever seen - if you look at most of the goals conceded this year its nearly always his fault - yet he doesnt get any of the blame - he needs to be dropped asap. and why is degen not starting? he had a blinder on weds

If we want to talk about not counting other years, for some reason you chose to exclude 2002-03, which was pre-Abramovich, when they placed in the top 4.

10 years just seems a rather arbitrary number to pick, you can see a pattern from 7 years IMO. Anyone who thinks 7 top6 finishes in a row, alongside League Cup, FA Cup, Cup Winners Cup, European Super Cup, Community Shield etc isn't demonstrating yourself as an established side challenging for Europe is kidding themselves. In fact that's a record that would arguably place them in the top 4 along with MU, Arsenal and Liverpool in terms of success during those years. Leeds and Newcastle made up the big6 but on the face of it their overall record in that time isn't better than Chelsea.

That said anyone who thinks Chelsea weren't spending big money before Abramovich arrived is also kidding themselves, personally I thought they were the next Leeds in the making, I mean there was an OBSCENE amount of cash being splurged all over the shop... Sutton, Hasselbaink, Gudjohnsen, Stanic, Gronkjaer, Gallas, Lampard, Petit, Zenden etc etc all £5m+ players brought in. I was sure Terry was going to have to be sold to Arsenal until RA stepped in.

It'll completely depend on who replaces them. Ideally I'd like to see Ngog replace Torres, Aquilani moved forward to replace Gerrard, Maxi brought in to replace Yossi and Degen/Carragher used at right back until Kelly's fully fit.

Unfortunately I expect to see Kuyt up front on his own which'll completely destroy any attacks we have :(

Interestingly Babel has been dropped from the squad for the Stoke match tomorrow, I've gotta say based on his performance against Reading (a good 80minutes+) he did nothing to convince me that he's worth anyone spending £10m on.

Anyway for me the Liverpool team picks itself:

.....................Reina
Carragher...Skrtel....Agger.........Insua
Maxi.....Aquilani....Mascherano...Aurelio
................Kuyt....Ngog
