Im looking at getting a car from a Japanese website and i cant seem to find any info on the abbreviations and what it means specifically. Anyone knows what it does for each?

FA - Floor Automatic

FAT -???

AT - Im assuming it means automatic....

I had a chat with the sales rep and she said this.

You are now speaking with Gem of translation.

El: Hello. What is FA please?

Gem: Hi, Thank you for using IBC LIVE. How may I help you?

Gem: FA is floor automatic

El: So what is the different between floor automatic and Automatic?

Gem: the automatic it is not specify however the floor automatic the automatic transmission is on the floor

El: OK thanks.

She clearly dont speak proper english like me so im wondering if anyone can shed more light on this for me please.

The car in question is a honda hrv. Thanks.

FAT means ******* Automatic.

You'll need a new gearbox :p

Btw what are you importing? :)

Damm your Edit!!!!

Can you get a kluger from there yet?

I'd hazard a guess at FAT = Fully Automatic Transmission?
So really, they're all describing the same thing.

That's what i thought too but how does it differs from an Automatic? Her explanation seems to suggest it differs somehow.

Not sure, I'd of assumed Automatic == Fully Automatic, and some other abbreviation would appear if it was semi auto?

Saying that she clearly has an issue with the English, I wouldn't place money on the fact that she understood your question properly :D

Edit: Plus, some cars have the auto stick shift on the steering column - a mates Mitsu Delica does

The abbrevation is used a lot for the cars. Manual is called F5 (full 5 gears?). As for the side shift, HRV dont have them so it is even more puzzling.

Can anyone help please. :)

I'm guessing here, but I would imagine it is the same thing with different acronyms.

FA - Fully Automatic

FAT - Fully Automatic Transmission

AT - Automatic Transmission

Remember

A.B.C. - Acronyms cause confusion ;)

Floor auto i think is where the gear stick is in our normal place, and column auto is probably on the steering column, like in american cars.

I think any way.

I probably has no difference, but when listing models for sale that have an option for different gearbox mountings, you would call it a floor automatic version to avoid confusion?

Why are you going to the hassle of importing a HRV?

Importing is for rare and decent performance cars. There are enough horrible pointless plastic HRV things in the UK for you to buy already, no point importing one.

That's exactly what I thought when I once read that someone had imported a Yaris. Like, why?
