Oh dear. This isn’t going to go down well. This GamesScoreBlog post’s confirmed that Fable II isn’t going to ship with online co-op, as promised.

The feature’s going to be added at a later date as it’s still being “tweaked”. From the entry:

We just got word that while we will be able to play the single player and local co-op on day one, they are still making tweaks to the online co-op. Don’t worry, it is definitely still coming. Seriously, as a gamer I’m glad they’re taking the time to make it right instead of just rushing it out the door. Lionhead and Microsoft Game Studios are looking to get the update out within the first week of launch in North America, so again, don’t think this is going to be a decade long wait. I suggest you do what I’m going to do - go play some more pub games and get a ton of gold to buy cool stuff as you start the single player or local co-op game.

Having said that, as you are playing through the game, you will still be able to see your friends as glowing orbs as well as chat and trade with them.

As soon as I get information for other regions and the date that the update is expected, I’ll let you know.

PS - Lionhead sends a huge thank you to all of the Fable fans, and asks for your patience and understanding. This is their most ambitious game to date and can’t wait to get you playing their vision as soon as they possibly can.

We’re saying nothing.

:( damn.

Meh... no co-op isn't an all but end all. I'll be happy if the games shipped on time for me to complete before buying Fallout 3 :p

So it's not really gone gold at all, has it. I bet the Microsoft bigwigs aren't exactly happy with Peter Molyneux. Should have got rid of him instead of Ensemble. LOL.

Lionhead in game-not-quite-as-good-as-pete-said-it-would-be shocker. I swear, Lionhead games would be far more fondly thought of amongst the gaming community if it wasn't for that muppet exaggerating constantly.

Posted before, And I said this in the last one.

If it was delayed a week or 2 to get the co-op sorted out we'd just complain about that.

So atleast the game is shipping on time, and co-op is being delayed.

No good news, But I can live with single player for a week.

It's classic Molyneux stuff. Touted the game as being done ever since E3, announces it gold only a couple of weeks ago, then declares it will release without a major feature included. Why go gold then add co-op only a week later after release you stupid tart, when you could've just slightly delayed it and went for a smoother gripe-free release instead?

I'm still getting the game on release day, but honestly, what's happened here is that they've rushed and released the game a week early. It's just bad practice to try and get it out the door in time and raking in all the monies before the other major releases start to come out at the beginning of October onwards. It reeks of low confidence.

edit: I'm going to be controversial and say that if the coop update is 500mb+, it's blatantly released as a downloadable extra because they didn't have the disc space for it.
