Facebook app on Android phone not giving notifications

Finally joined Facebook due to everyone at work using it and asking me if I'm on there. However, I don't know why but I never get a single notification of anything, be that a push notification on my phone or an email. All the settings are correct (both in app and on phone) to have notifications pop up whenever something happens on my Facebook, but nothing ever does. I've scoured Google and Facebook but all I get on there is page after page after page telling me how to enable the settings to receive notifications, that's moot as settings are already all set-up correctly.

I've deleted cache and data. Nothing changed, still no notifications.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app. Nothing changed, still no notifications.

Anyone have any ideas?

The notifications have never worked properly for me - click on them and it doesn't take you to the thing the notification was for, just takes you to get general page it was from.

Would not be surprised if the app was just broken on some devices.

Keep notifications turned off. In fact, keep off Facebook entirely if you can. It’s total junk. There are the odd enthusiast and local groups which can be useful, but the rest is garbage.

Need to try to wean myself off Twitter as well…

Trust me, it's doing you a favour..
Delete it and forget about that cancer.

chronic social media users are more likely to report poor mental health, including symptoms of anxiety and depression.

With increased social network use, there's a better chance for you to see that someone is having more fun than you are right now. And that's exactly what causes a form of anxiety that you get when you're scared of missing out on a positive experience that someone else is having

social media forms unrealistic expectations of life and friendships in our minds.

people, in search of social media fame, have taken unhealthy routes to appear more attractive and create a negative body image for everyone looking

Numerous studies have shown that increased use of social media has a negative effect on your sleep quality.

Social media can be more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol. It has a powerful draw for many people that leads to them checking it all the time without even thinking about it.

Go talk to your partner, read a book, touch some *******grass.... You'll have a better life

That's not helpful at all. But OK.

There's some real comedians in here, Facebook is awesome once you've set it up for your own needs.
There is more rubbish posted on OCUK than my Timeline.
Anyway, notifications have always worked for me but no idea what I did. I also have Facebook Lite and Metal on my phone.
My problem is I get notifications from The Sun and I've got no newspaper apps on!

Next notification that pops up swipe it slightly to the side to reveal the settings icon, tap that and it'll show you which app it's coming from. Most likely your browser and The Sun is using that to push notifications.

You star, I'd got about 20 on, hopefully I won't get them now.
I'd also got the Daily Mail coming in, absolutely no idea how this happened, like I say no apps on my phone unless it's a part of Samsung.

Randomly the FB app in rare instances gets its notifications disabled in Android, or needs to be manually enabled.

Long press the app (or find it in task switcher and tap the icon at the top) then essentially drill through and set up the ones relevant to you. I have silent notifications for the rest but audible notification tones for main things like comment replies to a post etc.
