An extremely minor irk in the grand scheme of things, but the news ticker on my Facebook has vanished without a trace. No option to hide or unhide, no icon to click. Gone. Done a search and seen various suggestions like zoom the page, create an event, nothing works. One explanation is that Facebook sometimes randomly test and can just remove features.

So anyhoo, is anyone else suffering from this outragous and unfortunate niggle?

Yeah, I imagine if I were a teenager or social media whore it'd be horrid. I use Facebook mostly for work and keeping in touch with folks. A tool like any other, I avoid the BS.

I was late on the bandwagon (early 2016), but I don't think I've ever seen the news ticker. Where exactly on the page was it?

My mum got duped by one of those "such-and-such celebrity has died" news on FB and the link took her to some malware / phishing type page. I asked her where on the page she saw it but she wouldn't elaborate despite asking her several times. Is this regarding the same thing that the OP is querying?

I'm still not sure what to make of FB though. A lot of people on there are materialistic and I don't like the multiple updates per day, so I silence anyone who does that (equiv. to using the hide button on OcUK forum). I also don't like "vaguebooking" (people who make frequent and meaningless posts like "life has never been so good" but without a context), so I silence those too.

P.S. the main good thing I can say about FB though is the groups facility. I've linked up with old and new clubbing mates via clubbing groups e.g. Trancecoda :) As long as you stick to using FB as a forum (groups), then you avoid all of the vaguebooking.

The ticker is a scrolling update of your friends's activities. Usually sits above the chat window. I think the link your mother clicked on would have been from one of the ads / news trending links, which I have blocked.

Ahh right. I take it you guys are using the mobile version? I decisively not used the mobile version as I would find it too distracting, even though I know I could turn off the push notifications. I just use the desktop version and check it every few days.

This is what FB looks like for me on desktop (Mozilla Firefox):

1st column is links to groups and liked pages.
2nd column is the amalgam of everyone's walls.
3nd column is classifieds.
4th column (which I have redacted) is my buddy list.

So yeah, not sure where the news bit is as I've never seen it.

Can't really comment as I have never used facebook or any of the social media sites. I just have my mobile and that's it lol.

Other half is always moaning about them changing things on there tho.

I'm on Desktop. I believe initially you have to click to enable it (ticker) and the option / icon should remain for it. But no longer available for me, and others it seems. Facebook messing about. Or as suggested, Russian meddlng. Or aliens.
