Facebooks 50 Genders

I think its complete nonsense to have so many. I struggle to understand more than 10 "being needed" and needed is a very loose term.

Im surprised how many here are defending it as a good thing. it really is quite silly but as it doesnt effect me in the slightest in any way imaginable im more than happy for these people to call themself what ever they think they need to to deal with their vile abhorent deviances. I jest.. I dont get it, do what they want. By labeling yourself as one of these you just alienate yourself more in the long run id guess :(

I thought Bronies were a gender choice?

This is what happens when you realise gender is fluid but people still want to label everything.
You can't define a fluid state, only a vector.

Compassion isn't the only thing he's lacking. :p

Gender isn't quite so binary as people think.

You have people born with two sets of DNA or even two sets of sexual organs (chimeras for example), besides - this is about identity not scientific classification.

Scarily accurate.

I'm sure I've seen people attempt to use the last line of 'reasoning' countless times here in GD, on the plus side it's a great way of determining if the person you are speaking to is in-fact a massive idiot.

Oh look, it's elMarxo... ;)

<3 you really you socialist wunderkind.

Shall we add the 9 (or is it 10) WoW class choices into the mix as well hehe? :p E.g. if you pick rogue (had to be spelt 'rouge' though ofc), then it means that you're gay and like doing it from behind because rouges do backstab. Paladin just means gay. Warlock means you're male because they are male witches after all. For a warlock to be female, you would have to call it a witch :D Choosing a squishy gnome mage must mean that you're a paedo because they're erm... quite small beings :p

That's the second time in pretty much as many days that I've agreed with you! I can understand that people find labels useful though, if accurate they present a quick and efficient mental short cut that allows us to better understand what we are presented with.

The level of transphobic rubbish in this thread doesn't surprise me, but it does sadden me. I promise that most, if not all, of the people in this thread have walked past a trans person without a second glance, worked with them etc and never even known. The stereotypical drag queen image that most think of when you talk about trans people doesn't really reflect the reality of a vast number of trans peoples lives.

Can someone please show me or tell me where these vast numbers of Transgender people are cos im 36 lived in London most of my life, have 2 gay family members 1 who DJs on the club scene and i have only ever met 1 transsexual and had one as a Doctor at university, lol dont ask :P in my life. Im sure ive had more potential exposure than "Joe bloggs" 2 in 36 years....

oh and that drama queen **** that was on here that made a fuss,,

They are all holding balloons on a bit of string, surprised you haven't noticed? :p

I guess the reality is they don't look any different unless they happen to be changing their body too.
I doubt socialising in a straight club is top of their list either, so unless you hang about on the fringes you won't meet any.

Who cares, let people identify however they wish. Its Facebook, not a passport application.

Yeah I agree.

I can't work out if Facebook are taking the **** or just using it for publicity, as I doubt there are enough people either not on Facebook or have left Facebook due to their inability to select some obscure gender identity to significantly affect revenue, especially as you didn't have to select a gender in the first place.

OP, the idea that a society moves on some sort of objective scale from BRUTES to REALLY GREAT (and that the West is at this end but risks being pulled 'backwards' by Facebook) is childish nonsense.

The transphobia in this thread is depressing.

Facebook has made a small change that benefits some of its users and has no negative impact on anyone else. It really shouldn't be that controversial.

Hurrah!

Well, my father was transgender, and I know of two other people purely in our sleepy east anglian market town (not in norfolk :p) so I'd suggest it may not be as uncommon as people may think.

I find it hard to fathom how people can be so offended by others wishing to be able to categorise themselves in a way which they're comfortable with,

Because it is the thin end of the wedge and will lead to the downfall of western civilisation as we know it!!!

Not entirely sure how, or in what way, or why, but that seems to be the counter argument. With an occasional dash of "my god finds it icky" for good measure.

If it let's other people be more confident with there gender, let them have it. How you could be against this, I just don't know.

I really don't understand the hate. It's not like FB removed male and female options.

They are just labels, they won't change peoples biological sex and the people that use them are well aware of that. But if those labels make people feel more comfortable in their own facebook account let em use them.

Seriously, what effect does it have on anyone else?

Suddenly everyone has inherited the emotional maturity levels of a 15 year old fat lass.

I don't know who you lot think you're fooling with your pretend outrage.

"Oh look at me, I believe that everyone's equal".

"You're confusing gender with sexuality"

What a load of utter nonsense.

There are 2 genders and that's that, not some made-up transgender claptrap.

Anyone can say anything and pretend it's their human right to feel how they want, I can't believe how many people fall for it.

Grow up and stop enabling further weirdos!
