Faceplate rewiring

I done a little test by taking the bottom part of the master socket off and putting my router into the master socket. I ended up syncing 4000kbits higher. (ADSL2+)

I want to now relocate my router next to the master socket and I will need to rewire it as if I put the bottom section on and plug it in there, it syncs 4000kbit lower.

I guess this is because the extensions wired upstairs. What I may do is disconnect the extensions and get a new bottom section so that its cleaner, so that the router will stay next to the master socket.

What is the best route to go?

In terms of networking, I'd have to then make everything completely wireless. I have 3 laptops and 3 machines in the house (3 are in one room). Is it better to go 6 wireless or 3 wired->wireless?

Get a filtered ADSL faceplate. I can't tell you where to get one from unfortunately but it'll offer you a filtered phone port and an ADSL socket. You'll be able to wire your extensions up to it which will be automatically filtered.

Personally I'd always go wired where possible due to the fact that I despise wireless - I only use it for my laptops for a spot of web browsing. A mix of wired and wireless devices is no problem. You might also want to investigate the home plug route if running cables is a major problem. It's quite expensive but far better than wireless.

If the machines are fairly close, two Homeplug devices and a switch might be a (slightly) cheaper option than buying half a dozen wireless adapters. It would certainly be faster.

Ideally I would have ran RJ45 all over the house but our house is 3 storeys so I imagine that will be a large cost unfortunately.

As long as these "Rangemax" products can let me use my full speed of ADSL2+ then I am happy.

I know what ones you are talking about, ordered one and then I will take it form there.

Thanks guys

A 300m drum of cat5e can be bought for about £30, even if you cabled in a dozen points and then terminated them all including the tools needed to do it would still end up cheaper than a homeplug or wifi setup ;)

I suppose it mainly comes down to whether its practical or not.
