Hi all,

Network cabling beginner here so pitch your comments accordingly ;-)

So, armed with some help from previous posts, I've installed vertical racking and have my switch and patch panel sat there waiting to do something! I've also made my first cable run - from the router to the patch panel - and managed to get that all wired-up correctly.

The issue that I'm having is installing faceplates in the chosen locations. I ordered the Cat6 faceplates without back boxes initially because I had some electrical ones and wanted to see whether they would fit - they didn't.

I explained this to my chosen supplier and asked for back boxes appropriate for the faceplates that I had bought from them. They have arrived today and ... they are the same as the ones that I already had! The screws passing through the faceplate come through on the outside of the screw holes in the back box (which also help to fix the box in place as it is a plasterboard-type back box). Am I missing something obvious here?

Well, don't I feel like a numpty?!

Just looking at the back box again to take a photo and what do I find? The receptors for the screws are mounted on a sliding platform and ... they slide outwards and will accommodate the screws. Doh!

Sorry. I did say that I was a beginner, didn't I?!
