Factory OC 970 GTX - Windows Error?

I have quite an old system but it has been running what I want without issues.

Ive recently been getting the application has been blocked from accessing the graphics hardware error in windows.

This is windows 10, on the latest drivers. I had TDR delay set to 8, but have increased this.

I had to check but I’m using a KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 OC silent INFIN8 which I understand has a factory overclock.

Could this be causing my issues?

I have a decent PSU (seasonic gold iirc) I bought over and above what was required to give me plenty of headroom.
 
It's unlikely to be the factory OC as it's quite a modest overclock. stock clocks on the gtx970 were 1050mhz stock /1178 boost on the core and 1753mhz memory, clocks on the infin8 were set at 1329 boost although most did boost a little higher, mine boosts to 1380mhz. most 970's could be overclocked manually to 1400+ boost / 2000 mem without any voltage increase however. if the factory OC is causing a hardware issue then it's more likely the GPU is toast, but as faswunz said I'd try removing the drivers first. It does appear to be the factory OC.

I’ve been through all other combinations, prime 95 and run windows memtest.

I would get crashes to desktop from my game with no error after 15-30 minutes but sometimes longer.

I did a full fresh windows 10 install and let it put the default drivers on (456).

I Installed the MSI rivatuner programme and furmark. Running furmark the GPU core was reaching an approximate max of 63c but I started to get some artifacting.

I knocked the core clock down by 200mhz back to Nvidia factory speed and artifacting stopped & my game has seemed stable for 1 hour.

Could this be resolved now and it was just an overly keen factory OC, or possibly hot spot on the gpu? Is it worth removing and reinstalling with new arctic silver (can you do this?).

Or is it just a matter of time before the card keels over?
