Hello everyone, hope you are all safe and well.

I have an Acer Aspire 5750 which works well despite its age. I want to give it to my mother. I've backed up all my files and want to wipe th laptop clean but not being very techie, I'm confused on a couple of things.

It's now running on Windows 10, but when I bought it, it was on Windows 7. So if I did a factory reset, would it reset with Windows 7? If so, would getting back to Windows 10 be possible? There is no recovery disc BTW.

I can't help thinking I'm opening a world of pain doing this and would be better being thorough in, ahem, wiping evidence of my activities from the laptop manually (and hope I don't miss anything).

Any advice welcome.

Actually, I might have answered my own question.

If I create a new user account for my mother with full admin rights, then use that account to delete my account, that would delete all data wouldn't it?

You can just reset the windows 10 installation so it’s fresh. If you go into settings and then recovery it’s an option in there..

Many thanks. I've decided just to search, backup and remove anything and everything that wasn't system related and created new account.

It's running like a dream which I'm pleased with for a 15 year old laptop. Now it's time to get me a new one... So another thread is needed!

Thanks again.
