Factory reset an iPad

Hello,

My friend has an iPad which needs factory resetting so it's like "out of the box".

I tried using iTune to "restore" it, which is meant to factory reset the OS. However after doing this it still says the iPad is linked to the previous owners gmail address.

Is there anyway I can factory reset this thing so I can set it up as a new user?

On the iPad go to Settings > General > Scroll to bottom and erase IPad.

Thanks but I don't know what the AppleID of the previous owner was. My friends on Facebook have just replied and said there's no way as its a security measure developed by Apple rendering stole devices useless. This isn't a stolen device obviously.

Cant be done I'm afraid. Need the previous owner to disable activation lock / delete the device from their iCloud account.

As above, previous owner has to unlock, It's been known for AppleCare to unlock it for you IF you can provide proof of original purchase and ID etc.
