Right following on from the GD pimpage thread, I've tried setting up the client but am getting the message: Couldn't send http request to server" :(

I'm on a two machine network but this machine is directly connected to the internet and is not proxied. I'd like to reconfigure and get it to use my ie settings, how do i do that?

cheers

Alright, close the command window if it's still open by pressing Ctrl-C. Open up the folder where you put the console. Make a shortcut to the client executable by right clicking on it and choosing "Create Shortcut".

Click on the new shortcut and select properties to brink up the window shown.

In the box called "Target" after the .exe type a space and -configonly.

Press OK. Run the shortcut. The client will go into config mode. Here you will see that all the config options from the first time around here back. When it asks if you want to use IE settings, tell it you do. You might also want to verify that you haven't given it any proxy information.

Right done all that, tried the ie settings and it still isn't working. One thing though, i hav the laptop setup as machine id 1, im guessing i probably shouldnt have given this desktop machine id 1 as well ??

Nah, those ID numbers are irrelevant unless you are wanting to run more than one console on one computer.

Scroll through your log file and find the IP address of a server it's trying to connect to. Copy it and paste into your browser. Does it connect then?

Might you have a firewall blocking the program?

no ip mentioned in the log.

[13:32:40] - Ask before connecting: No
[13:32:40] - Use IE connection settings: Yes
[13:32:40] - User name: [madoldtory] (Team 10)
[13:32:40] - User ID not found locally
[13:32:40] + Requesting User ID from server

[13:32:41] + Could not connect to Secondary Assignment Server for ID
[13:32:41]
+ Could not get ID from server. Retrying...

That's what it is saying...

FAH is allowed full access by my firewall too...

only windows firewall actually, but it doesnt work with the firewall off either
very odd

have you tried running the client from a shortcut rather than as a service? could be that when it's starting as local system it doesn't have the rights to allow it to connect

Yeh this is the initial setting up through the -configonly shortcut. Never had this problem when i was folding before. Might try restarting the system in a while and see if that helps.

can you view either of the following pages?

http://171.67.89.93/

http://171.65.103.95/

you should be able to see a white page which just says "OK" in the top left corner
oddly enough I can't view the first one from this machine
those are the IP addresses for the two main assignment servers btw

oh and you may get more information if you use the...
-verbosity 9
...switch in the shortcut

I can't view the first page either but folding works fine for me. I have a router with a firewall.
yeah i think that's normal unless you add the :8080
one assignment server uses port 80 and the other uses port 8080

my router firewall has never been a problem, neither has windows firewall which i realised today isn't even set to allow FAH access anyway (yet it still works - oddness)

I've just tried to set up a mates laptop to run the fah client, but it is also stuck on trying to contact the server, the error is something like "Could not connect to primary assignment server" and it also does this for the secondary server.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I am stuck with how to make it work and just reckon it is the university network being a complete pain as per usual. (I live in halls).
