Today I was looking to make my XJ a bit more aerodynamic, and found that the front airdam from a Chevrolet Blazer, of all things, fits good and proper.
This not only improves economy a little, as it reduces the amount of air that moves underneath the vehicle, which in turn does a number of things including
- Increasing air volume passing through the grill to the radiator as it lowers the pressure in the engine bay, creating a depression, helping draw air through the cooling pack
- Reduces drag and smooths airflow under the vehicle, helping mileage
- Reduces the lift of the vehicle on the road, which improves stability during lane changes and cornering.
Something like this:
I headed over to Rockauto - a great place to get US car parts direct from the US, and plugged in the code.
This air dam costs a whopping........ $7. That's it.
I think 'joy' and plug in my postcode and UK location. Up comes the shipping quote....
$330.86
D'oh!
So now I need one of these instead, until I find something suitable:
Anyway, onwards!
