I just had a 200gb sata seagate hard drive fail on me. The problem is that the board has somehow been fried, does anyone know of anywhere replacement boards can be bought? I really need the data off the drive. Thanks!

The only real option is a well known auction site.

However you will not only need a drive of the exact same model number, but one which has a manufaturere date within a month or so of the original drive. Also be aware that even if you manage to get an idetical drive the control board may be of a different design if it has come from another manufacturing plant.

You need to meet this criteria as the boards firmware must be exatly the same revision as the original drive as there is data stored on the platter which relate/integrate to the boards firmware.

I think if you DIY its going to be nigh on impossible to swap out the PCB. However, there are companies out there who specialise in data recovery and for a fee (I think you might have to pay £200+) they will get the data off the disk for you.
