Failed memory upgrade...

Found a spare 512mb stick of DDR laying around, thought I'd chuck it in with my 1gb set of GeIL Value memory and bring it up to 1.5gb, however it wouldn't boot, I know it's not this spare stick of DDR as I swapped out one of the GeIL ones for it to test it and it booted up fine.

I've got an Asus A8V and an AMD 3500+ (I think it's a Winchester core) on Windows XP. Is there any reason that it won't boot with a 3rd stick of memory in that I've missed? I'm utterly baffled :confused:

*I forgot to add that the memory in question is PC3200*

Have you set the memory to dual channel in the bios or anything? This would stop it booting i reckon as it can't dual channel with 3 sticks....

Try setting all the memory settings to default\auto-detect, get it to boot, then tweak from there.

I've not a clue what I'm doing in BIOS and didn't find anything about dual channel in the settings but pretty much all the settings are set to Auto anyway

Check your mobo manual.

I am pretty sure you need to do things in pairs. Most boards let you get away with 1 single stick in DIMM 1 Channel A , but after that you need to do them in pairs. But it should tell you in your mobo manual.

I just done that as it happens and you're right, it only does things in pairs.
