On Emissions of all things....only the garage doesn't know what the problem is, helpful

Citroen C5 as well... Here's hoping it's a sensor thats a few quid and not the CAT :(

Could well be the lambda sensor or the CAT, but i'm really suprised the garage do not know what it could be - if your garage has fault code diagnostic equipment there get them to do a scan on your ECU or if not, then if you can take your car to another garage which does have the equipment to do a scan.

They haven't go the equipment for Citroen :(

Don't really want to take it elsewhere and spend more money on it than is necessary though.

Antother garage will only charge a tenner to do a diagnostics scan on your car, you may as well get it done to determinethe problem as if it is the Lambda sensor, it will definately throw up an error code on the ECU.

Most of them would do it for free as long as you let them change the O2 sensor. It shouldn't cost much at all on a Citroen.

Rang the Citroen dealer up, £90 for the diagnostics  Robbing so and so's...

How bad has it failed on the emissions?

How is it driven, sometimes a good blast is enough to clear everything out the exhaust and let it breathe easier. Been done many times on cars driven by the slower drivers.

If the garage that did the MOT can't test the various emission systems due to not having any diagnostic equipment suitable for your car, then you're better off taking it somewhere that does. They may start replacing parts they 'think' are causing it otherwise, or possibly replace your catalytic converter/lambda sensor(s) without determining if the engine is running correctly (overly rich fuel mixture would quickly ruin a new cat).

Ask them for a printout of the emissions results, that way it's possible for either you or another garage to get a rough idea of where the problem lies.

They have all the equipment, they are a main VW dealer, who do good deals on MOT's and are pretty good all round, used them for years, obviously they don't have Citroen diagnostics...

the limit was 0.30% and it was 0.37% after a damn good thrashing.... :(

anyway, it's in a garage Thursday to be diagnosed...
