Ok, in testing resulting from this thread I'm thinking I have a bad RAM slot, does this happen?

Board is MSI Z77IA-E53.

Testing so far:

Ran each stick in slot 0 and ran memtest with no faults.
Booted and ran fine from each stick in slot 0.
Tried each stick in slot 1 and wont even post, I just get a restarting loop.

Sound reasonable?

The whole lot is only around 2 months old with the RAM even newer at about 1 month.

No I haven't faffed with the CPU, simply because it would mean disassembling the whole rig to get to it.

How likely is it to be that? Everything was fine up until about a week ago when I started getting crashes in game, then yesterday it all went t*ts up.

if no ram sticks will work in a certain slot its either the board itself developed a fault or bent socket pins

could be a mb fault then,im just saying the common things that cause it

I would still have a look if your taking the board out for rma, even undisturbed it might take time for it to affect things idk

its difficult to see if they are bent but look close for a uniform shape, any that shine different or look out of place or even slightly bent will cause issues

be carefull not to damage any when checking

Well I filed for RMA and retailer wants a picture of the board showing the CPU socket pins, this is just faff I don't have time for TBH. Nothing is ever simple is it.

are any bent? if not then I wouldn't worry,it might be a blown capacitor, ive had that happen and affect a ram slot

dunno, I haven't really got the time or desire to pull it all apart at the minute. I'm just limping it along on a single 4gig stick of RAM,which as it happens is working flawlessly but obviously it needs sorting.

I think my problem is I'm not really a tweaker, I just wanted a solid build that would result in me never having to keep dragging it out and fiddling with stuff, so far it's been the opposite.
