I tried sleeping the computer for the first time and while most components behaved, the fan on my 2nd graphics card ramped up to a high speed. I tried to recover from the sleep but it didn't respond so I was forced to hard reset. Now, on booting the PC it passes POST and gets to the blinking text cursor, which blinks a few times, moves down a line, then blinks for as long as you let it.

If I pre-empt the blinking text cursor by manually selecting the boot device then Vista boots as normal. Any way of rectifying this weirdness?

You've not got a memory stick or some other USB storage device plugged in have you?

My pc won't boot up if there is a digital camera memory card in my card reader!

Afraid not, and it did boot up fine before the failed sleep attempt...I'm pretty certain that was the trigger for the weirdness.

Sounds very strange indeed, although i had a problem similar to this & it was cured by putting my SATA drive to boot first & it worked, If all else fails try repairing from the Vista disk the repair console is very handy in Vista!
