Anyone ever seen a usb controller on a motherboard start to fail (ie on boot up fail to initialise with items connected)

I have had this Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard since it was first out with an overclocked E6400 (even with cpu at stock it fails with any usb device connected)

Anything I can do at all? - nothing has changed in months and the last two boots I have had to remove all usb for it to get past POST

Is it a coincidence that both My MCE pc's decided not to boot in the same day? (the one above boots with no usb devices, the other wont even log into Safe Mode - just as log in box appears dialogue box appears" security device failed please disable it before restarting" and then it shuts windows down grrrr)
