Hi folks,

can a corrupted windows make prime95 and super pi fail?

My opteron is stable at 10x274 and the memory is error free at 228Mhz.

If I run 10x274 and memory at 190mhz everything is stable, but with another memory divider and memory at 228Mhz it fails prime95 so I wonder if the problem could be the mobo or windows corrupted after playing with memory settings.

should I reinstall windows or is nothing to do with prime95 and super pi?

thanks,

L

my barton had previous done 225*11 for about the last year. i tried some new ram and i primed and in the morning found it had failed quickly. they continued to use the comp all day, until i put the normal ram back in.

even with the normal ram at my usual settings it was not prime stable and eventually crashed terminally (had to reinstall)

i therefore think that yes a corrupted win install will name prime go wonky

prime and PI are not to do with windows so you can relaxe on that side.

It will fail either because the CPU hasnt got enough juice or the RAM aint got enough juice. Up the voltage on the RAM a little seen as you say it came from messing around with the memory settings.

*edit*

Maybe I was wrong :p

Ye it definatltely sounds like your ram could use a little more juice if its failing at a higher frequency...

Also what prime95 test are you running? - if you run small fft and it fails then your cpu is unstable

I run memtest for over 7 hours at 228Mhz without errors so I don't think is the ram  . I will memtest again tonight to be sure is not the ram.

I thing is going to be a mobo issue as lot of people is having problems with the mobo at high memory speeds and 1T.

You think is not worthy to reinstall windows. I don't want to do it so I will carry on playing with the memory.

Cheers
