I have a CAT5e running from my Virgin Superhub 2.0 upstairs down to a switch in the living room, spltting out to my PS4 and XBMC Acer Revo.

Problem is in the past 6 month two switches have failed, first a TP Link one and now a Netgear GS105 one.

At first I thought it was router related. As for weeks it would work great on each switch, then after a while they would drop connection. Sometimes turning off the router and switch would help. Sometimes swapping the cables to different ports would help. Lastnight, no amount of messing around would work. Plugged the main CAT5e direct in each device - works perfect.

So is this a case of bad luck with faulty switches or something else? The lights on both switches continued to show green and active despite no connection. When they dont work, they appear to be issuing strange IP, rather than the expected 192.etc.etc

Ive tried both dynamic and fixed IP addresses on devices, still same problem.

That was my original thought too but it doesn't lose connection in direct links, i.e. laptop.

I'm almost convinced its the switch, especially given a direct link works faultless. I've just used the live chat with Netgear and they are issuing an RMA :)
