heres the quick rundown..

athlon system running at spec for 4 years no problems...suddenly wont boot..wont even go into safe mode..trys but just reboots endlessly....take out one stick of the two 512 ddr sticks of ram and boots ok..stick back both..boots fine...turn off..go back an hour later..wont boot..take out one stick ram and boots fine..put second back in..boots fine...hour later..wont boot..and so it goes on...

so what one earth is happening when removing one stick for one boot allows the whole system to boot next time with both sticks..but the eventually fail again....

Well it sounds like a problem with the memory controller, those cpu's had the memory controller on them...

Short of going through and cleaning the hardware, and possibly a windows reinstall, dunno if there is much you can do...
