Hi, I have resprayed my right front fairing after some cosmetic damage.

The colour looks great and matches the other sections. I have put 2 coats of clear glossy lacquer on it. The problem is that the resprayed side feels slightly rougher than the OEM plastics and also has a matt shine to the.

The OEM plastics are very smooth and very glossy.

Is it possible to get it back to that stage?

Do I need to use about 3 cans of lacquer?

Thanks.

I'm nowhere near an expert, but isn't one method to use very very fine 'wet and dry' sandpaper to smooth both the paint before applying lacquer, and then the lacquer between coats?

Might be worth a try doing it now and then 1 or 2 more coats?

But then I haven't sprayed anything since I used to make rc cars about 12-13 years ago, which isn't exactly the same thing :p

Depending on what paint and lacquer your using, I'm guessing rattle cans?
Which would normally be cellulose, you really want to build up at least 4-5 good layers of lacquer, letting it dry and cutting back between coats with 2000+ grit wet and dry paper.

after the last coat has fully hardened, "at least a week" you need to polish the pannel using a rubbing compound like farecla G3

and a polish mop in a variable speed buffer.

You have to be carefull when polishing not to burn the lacquer, if you do you'll have to cut it back and spray lacquer again.

After polishing your pannels will be smoother and super shiny.

You can polish by hand, but by god is it hard work!
