We got ours from Grass Direct on Portobello industrial estate. Didn't seem too badly priced compared to others and had a good range for all budgets.
@a1ex2001
How much did it cost and what square foitage do you mind me asking? Just about to get a quote from them.
Have had one quote io 4.5k for 60 square meters of lawn.
Did they do an under bed of hardcore first? Or straight on to of what was what there?
Thanks.
The 30ppsm was just for the grass?
Any idea the cost of the hard core and labor on top?
One thing that i cannot get my head around with artificial turf is how exactly it is secured down?
It comes in 4m wide strips which seems nice and easy to manage, but how over time, with kids playing on it and general use, does it not move? I am imagining getting bulges at the joins as it gradually shifts over time? What keeps it in place and tight?
I also worry that the actual turf itself would stretch over time, as it heats and cools, with heavy items wheeled over it from time to time, etc. How does it remain tight without ripples etc? This is pretty much the same concern as point #1.
Carpet is stretched tightly between grippers so is a totally different prospect, you also dont usually have multiple joints within carpet half way across the room. Obviously with turf you will have joints as it only comes in 4m widths.you normally pour sand over the top of it or rubber. it's also usually nailed down into beams around the edges.
this keeps it weighted down and in place. plus the fact it's not exactly light.
what stops your carpet from moving around?
Fake turf serves a purpose clearly not for you, interestingly nobody has described ours as hideous most have said it's a great solution as they walk out in there socks! We basically had a choice of fake grass or slab the lot as our lawn simply didn't work for us and the fake crass has a much softer feel. We love it and so do the kids!Fake turf is hideous, strange people indeed use it.

I see what you are saying about some sort of battening around the edges, but what about the joints along the length of the garden every 4m? Perhaps its a non issue but it does concern me, i can see the separate bits moving slightly over time and butting against each-other creating bulges?
