Does anyone else get errors when playing these mods for HL2, Ep1, etc. I'm not sure if it's related to Vista x64 or not but it's annoying.

I keep getting this one lately,

Happens on a loading screen ingame.

I've had other errors and that same one but with a different path, I've tried reinstalling the mod and installing the Visual +CC Runtimes again but hasn't made a difference :(.

I have a fix for you... lemme find it....

Ok, I couldn't run FakeFactory in Vista x64 until I applied this patch, which actually fixed a crashing problem I was having in TF2 (the reason I went looking for patches in the first place):

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/940105

To my knowledge it hasn't appeared on Windows Update, I have no idea why.

Hmmm I'm out of ideas then sorry :( I had crashes on loading any map the same as you, and that one patch cured it all.

I tried removing the update and installing it again, but it made no change :(. This is with the HL2 version, version 4 of the mod.

Do mods need the Source SDK base?

yes they do require the source SDK base.

also, did you install it manually or using the installer?
was steam closed when you installed it?
are you running the normal "Half-life 2" that appears in steam or are you running the new "cinematic mod (V4.0)

I used the installer that came with the download, the setup.exe file.

Steam was closed, yes, as the readme file said.

I'm using: Cinematic Mod (V4.0), in the games list on Steam.

im probably being really silly here. but does everyone else's HL2 folder actually have a "materials" folder? mine doesnt but the readme is asking me to copy and paste the materials folder from Fakefactory into the hl2 folder to replace a materials folder. which i cant find.

using vista if this matters?

I get that ingame sometimes, never over the screen though like that :( just on walls or windows, certain textures too.

what version of the mod are you using? the latest version of the mod has a very nice and neat automatic installer

that IS the hi-def pack. its just got a new name for some reason. something about absurdly high-quality textures...

i thought that v4 cinematic mod also alters the game, things like different models etc and it causes the game to crash?

if its safe to use will it also work on episode 1 of hl2?
