I went for goodyear f1's last time (very good grip but find them very noisey).

i need some tyres for the rear now and have noticed that falken and kumho tyres are half the price!!

are they half as good or should i keep with the expencive brands?

ps they are 45-215-17 and the car is a remapped alfa 156 JTD.

Falken ZE512 are meant to be excellent for the money, but go steady in the wet and they also have soft'ish side wall.

Only seen very negative comments about the Kumho Ecsta.

Neither will be as good as F1's.

If you don't mind paying a bit more still then Michelin Pilot Sport 2's are supposed to be excellent. I'll either be getting those or F1's for the Audi when it's ready.

Tyres are the only thing holding you to the road, I will never compromise on tyres

The £600 it just cost to shod some Pzeros to my baby is nothing compared to the value I place on my life ;)

I have Kumhos on the back and there scary ! i have falkens on the front and ive found them to be fairley decent :)

I had kumo estca's all round on my supra they had plenty of grip in the dry but in the wet i could light up the rears with out even trying somthing that doesn't happen with the f1's

i got a full set of Kumho Ecstas ULTRAS on my mondeos new 19" superturismos.

Have to say theyre at least 40% grippier in the wet than my old pzero rosso's.

And the dry is even better too.

Dunno where all the Kumho negativity is coming from :S

I have some Kumho tyres on my Coupe at present (no idea which model they are, but the size is 225/40/16).

I've actually been very impressed with them, especially with the amount of grip in the wet. I'll still be replacing them with F1's though :)

i agree with you guys that you should not skimp on tyres, but for half the price i was wondering just how bad they can be.

Perelli P Zero Nero's any good? they are a fair bit cheeper than the f1's.

does no one else find the F1's noisey?

I've got pzero neros on my fiesta and seem pretty good, certainly did very well on the track day I took them on. However not the greatest in the wet, but can do a lot worse.

The Pzeros have quite a stiff side wall whic makes them great for big fat cars like mine, they even do an XL version which is even stiffer still

do you ever push the car in the wet or dry? if so cheap tyres are not for you.

yes often.

i was wondering how much werse the falkens were than F1;s, Pzeros, contis etc. concidering they are half the price.

well i put budgets (like £10 cheaper) on the front and got understeer in the dry, in the wet they would wheelspin and understeer even more. got continentals 8-10k later and no understeer or wheelspin whilst driving it the same.
i wouldnt like to see how much the rear would come out if i had budgets on the back

Never used Kumhos but when I was doing research on Owners club forums the feedback I got was that they may be half the price but they aren't half the tyre. iirc for my old MR2 Turbo they were £60 a corner and Toyo T1R's were £100. But the Toyos weren't 40% better than the Kumhos. Good grip in the dry, decent in the wet. imho, fwiw, ymmv etc etc ;)
