I honestly couldn't think where to put this one, so thought "GD is always good for random questions" :)

I need to look into getting a fall/panic/help alarm for my dad, but don't really know where to start and Google is being utterly useless for what I'm after as it seems to keep bringing back subscription based ones.

Basically what I want is an autodialling system that can detect a fall or be manually activated, and then ring user selected numbers (if it's able to also sound an alarm in the house that would be great).
What I don't want is one that will go to a call centre as I live about a minute away, and my brother in law and nephews are 3 minutes away so a subscription "monitored" alarm is a waste given one of us can be with him basically as soon as we pull something on our feet (I'd rather pay a bit more for the actual hardware outright given the sub services look like they're £100-300+ a year with an upfront cost that is only marginally cheaper than some of the standalone ones I've found).
I've found manually activated fall alarms that can dial out (not names I recognise/few reviews) but not something that can also detect a fall.

I think even some of the "smart watches" could probably do what we want, but we don't really want to pay several hundred pounds and have something that requires charging every night as he's unlikely to put it back on when just popping to the loo or getting a cuppa at 3am, and he only needs it in the home (he's always with someone when out).

It seems like something that should be out there but i'm not having much luck.

[edit]
typical, I post this, change my search term very slightly and start getting more useful results.
