Quick thread, I need something I can get through Steam for the netbook. After some research I have decided I want to have a go at one of the earlier Fallout games. I played Fallout 3 and wasn't mad about it, but now I'm in the mood for a post-apocalyptic RPG in the 2D style now.

Which of the two should I get? I was going with 1.

play 2 first, if you like it you'll be more willing to put u pwith fo1's flaws

although you can get them both in a bargin bin (white label iirc) for under a fiver in most gameshops.

You can just rip the disk and install it fro ma thumb drive.

the first bit of 2 (the temple tutorial thing) is a bit **** but it's short and the game starts properly after that :)

Well, the whole of the first act of The Witcher was ****e but I put up with it. Thanks for the warning though, it helps. I have little patience for tutorials, as a lot of people, I imagine.

Thanks. I don't intend to play both.. at least I don't think so. I just bought Fallout 2 off Steam, looking forward to it.

Both games can be downloaded for a few dollars from GOG (along with many other classics), for fallout 2 I recommend you using the megamod or the restoration project mod. These mods add a bunch of new and also well made quests and items, and they add some stuff that didn't make the 'final cut' of the game but are alluded to in broken quests and conversations in vanilla.

it's only 10 minutes or so.

But fun thing to know you can get through the tutorial bathed in blood and glory or without ever throwing a punch.

Same as the rest of the game, there's always more than 1 option. (usually more than 2 and even more when you mix and match approaches at different stages)

don't use them first time they are ok, but the writing is very poor compared to the original and it shows.

the high ress patch +killap's unofficial patch is useful.

Also as it's the uk version you'll want to add children back in.

those 3 don't change the game play just fix bugs (removing children broke some quests, but they had to do it as under the uk laws being able to smash a child's head in with a rock is a no no).

and high ress patch http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1325 (on very high resolutions will let you see outside the proper map and just show empty space which can look weird.)

Enjoying this so far but it freezes a lot and I have to restart.

Yes this is a netbook but I doubt whether this is to do with system requirements! Anyone got any ideas as to how to fix this? I have applied the high res patch and Killap patch.
