Fallout 3 - Can't seem to get to where I want to go...

Getting frustrated with this now. There are a least 4 places on my map I haven't went to yet; but need to. And everytime I try in head in their general direction I can't because of collapsed buildings, etc.

So I try and follow the route around which is open and it takes me all over the map to areas in the totally different direction. I can't seem to figure it out. For example, rescued some people off a hotel roof (again, I wasn't on planning on getting to the hotel, I was actually still trying to do the Galaxy Radio mission). Nevermind, at the end, the bloke says, come to our HQ. Can I get to the place... can I heck. Just a lot of wandering around in metro station's getting lost. :(

Any help. What am I doing wrong! :o
 
I only played Fallout 3 a bit but keep meaning to re-start it. I was at a point where I was in the underground and the marker on the map just took me to the outside but as soon as I was outside, it was sending me straight back to the exit I had just come out of.

The metro station maps can be a little confusing, but generally are ok. Switch to the local map rather than the general one in your pip boy and it should be a lot clearer.

As for missions going wrong- are you sure you still have your original mission selected. Sometimes it can change to another mission if you accept one. You need to go back into pip boy and select the mission you were planning on doing to get the compas right.

Apart from that I can't really give you any advice, only very occassionally had trouble navigating, and it was normally because of stupid NPCs getting lost.
 
In a lot of the inner city areas, if you can't find a way to a specific 'zone' then there's a fair chance that you will have to use the underground metro links to get there and to a surface exit that is in your destination zone.
 
Thanks for the replies. I never thought about using the local map! That may help! :D

You can definately go to there base as I have been there - it was a little confusing on how to get there but not to bad in the end.

Top Tip:

Look at the signs in the metro, it will tell you what colour line you need to be on and the places it can reach.

Quoted for truth.
When you are wondering around it can take hours to stumble across the correct station. You need to read the underground maps
 
There's usually a map of the metro near the entrance, from that and the signs when you get to the platforms you can work out which direction you need to head, providing of course that it's not blocked :) (if it is blocked try another station).

Just watch out for nasties down in the metro...there are horrible things lurking down there, in the dark, waiting to come out!
