Don't read on if you haven't finished the game and don't want the surprises ruined

OK,

Just finished fallout 3 and i thought the ending was absolute rubbish! Anyone else feel the same?

For a game that takes so long for nearly every quest the ending is so short and abrupt - you just die activating the purifier - end of?!?

I thought it was a let down to what otherwise is a fantastic game :(

Edit: Going to reload from earlier, and see if i can change it and get the lyons person to die :)

Hi,

I really liked the end of the game, the last section was wicked. Also they did say it would have a full stop end, i.e not being able to carry on.

The end credits where wicked, based on the choices you made during the game, I'm not much for games that don't seem to end, so i liked it. I got 45 hours out of the game on the first run so cannot be upset for the price.

Nice one

The problem I had was that I had already visited the place before getting the quest and so had wiped all the super mutants out. Didn't really make sense as the quest suggested otherwise.

There are 100s of endings so I hear.

But I think they should have left it open ended.
I have sold this now and getting Left 4 dead.

By letting Lyons die in the purifier rather than yourself doesn't let you continue which is daft. Just gives you a much bitchier 'summary' of your life before the credits :P

I half now want to start again and this time having good karma and this time doing all the sub quests, however knowing the ending I probably won't enjoy it as much - also the beginning with rubbish weapons will be tedious :(

Weapons being crap is kind of annoying, I grant you, but I found it helped a lot that I had a better idea of where multiples of each weapon can be got and that I'd figured out the overwhelming importance of the Repair skill.

Also, you can speed through a lot of the dead time in the beginning with judicious tweaking of the FMoveRunMult flag in the console. That lets you effectively skip lengthy overland treks (of which there are a great deal to start with as you discover everything) and long indoor walking sequences. I started up another character and this made it much more tolerable in the early going.
