Fallout 3 expansions

Ive played through this on the 360 already, and just bought it last week for the PC with the idea of adding the expansions.

Is there any benefit to getting the expansions prior to starting the game or do these only kick in once the original game ends?

Whats the best expansions to have, are there any not necessary or do they all add something?

No m8, i mean the official addons, the pitt, anchorage etc.

Yeh, but i sold that 360 and lost the save, so id have to start again anyway, thought i may as well do it while the game looks better
