I'm having problems with Fallout 3.

Installed it, set the Screen Res 1920x1200 etc..

When I select a new game from the option screen it starts to load but it's like the screen id split in three, in the top 1/3 I can see what looks like a yellow bulb. The bottom 2/3 are blank. The is the occasional sound stutter
and the bulb things move about a frame every couple of seconds..

Eventually it crashes...

I'm using a ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2, Windows XP.

Any idea please ? was looking forward to playing this tonight :(

There are quite a few people have problems with this game, I'd head over to the official Fallout 3 technical support forums and see if there are any known workarounds yet, there is some stuff there already such as adding Fallout3.exe to the blacklist for FFDShow for both audio and video, and also using medium shadows and not high... but best to have a look over there.

Thanks.. no solution for me that I can find however I have discovered if I dont mess about the Cutscene pass and continue to the game.

The game plays very well, but now when there is a cutscene I just get a blackscreen with a white box in the top left 1/3 of screen.. if I let it play it continues to the game fine..

I can't play it like this though as I'm sure I'm missing crucial parts of the game, real shame as it looks great... hope someone finds a solution soon!

What soundcard you got... it may be your problem... got a Xonar by any chance?

I'm using a : Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional

Cheers

Oh, I know some people with te Xonar's where having probs, I've had no probs (touch wood) with my D2X thus far, but people with the DX have, installing the latest drivers and turn DS3D off worked for them.

Tried updating your x-fi drivers? You never know!

Tried manually disabling EAX from the Creative Console? That was another "fix" on the Fallout 3 official forums.

I have now, but no luck :(

The game played fine, it's just purely the cutscenes, now what would cause that I don't know..

Sounds codec related to me. Have you checked out the official Bethesda forums? I remember reading something about a codec pack someone installed which fixed an issue when starting a new game... I'll have a look for you :)

Forum linkage - beware of possible spoilers ;)

What OS are you using? Cheers.

You may or may not want to try this but here it is:

o Remove XVID & DIVX codecs / software (if any)
o Download k-lite codec pack
o Install k-lite codec pack
o Play the game

This has worked for a few people. Other than that, not really sure what to suggest :(

Good for you  :p

Right, sorry what I suggested didn't work. Hope you manage to find something on the official forums. You never did say what OS you are using?

Said it before the inevitable "X2 is not reliable etc" is posted.

Try latest hotfixes, try AI on Normal or Advanced in CCC, set CCC settings to Application settings for AA etc.

Seem to be getting somewhere...

I replaced Binkw32.dll found in the Fallout directory with another version I found on another game. Now get the full screen and but the animation moves at a snails pace.

So maybe replacing Binkw32.dll again with a newer version or something, any idea where I can get an up to date Binkw32.dll file from ?

can send the file across if that helps

Would be nice to try, my mate sent me one last night, it still gave me full screen intro picture but animation was like a frame every couple of seconds and same with sound. I have a feeling there's more to it that just the one file but it is looking like a codec/maybe driver thing.

Email in trust if you have time.

Cheers
