Fallout 3 Launcher Problems

Hi

I seem to have a problem with the Fallout 3 launcher as it won't open, at all. I've tried uninstalling the game, clearing the registry of all the Fallout 3 remnants and reinstalling and it still doesn't work. The error message I am getting says "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem".

I have no problem running the game as I played through about 50% or so but then lost my save game files, and forgot to back them up in the process so I ended up uninstalling the game cos I couldn't be bothered starting again at the time.

I have no idea why I am getting this error so if anyone has any idea what the problem is, and if there is a fix for it, thanks in advance.

Thanks.

Do you use XFire by any chance?

If so the error is linked to that, I get the same problem, the error cycles about 8 times but then the game launches and plays fine.

If you close XFire down before firing up the game the error does not appear, weird but I have yet to find a fix.... I had the exact same with Farcry 2 until the latest patch which fixed it.

I do have Xfire installed on my PC but never really use it now when gaming, so it's not been open when I've tried running the Fallout 3 launcher so I don't think that's the problem.

Worth a go, its a known problem so I've read but no fix so far!

It's not a problem for every single person who uses XFire and plays Fallout 3 though, only a few...... something to do with Vista 64 aswell...... funnily enough!

Hmm, if that's true then it might be down to that rogue xfire 64bit executable - that's been known to cause issues all over the shop.

D3mo, do a Ctrl-Shift-Esc and see if xfire64 is a running process. It's just about possible...

Hmmmm, I seem to have solved the problem but I don't know how I fixed it lol. I think it may have been something to do with needing to update .Net Framework 2.0 but I'm not sure, as I also cleared the registry of all the left over Fallout 3 remnants again and reinstalled it after updating the .Net Framework.

Go into the program files directory and launch Fallout3.exe. It bypasses the launcher, starts the game instantly, and has the added bonus of not doing the CD check (As this is done by the launcher). :)
