fallout 3 - mods and patches?

I havent played fallout 3 since near its release, it was a good game and i would like to start again (didnt get that far last time), but i got a lot of crash to desktops (just got a pop up saying its stopped responding, happened about every half hour), is the latest patch any good? Has it fixed a lot of them problems? Plus how has the modding scene taking off with this? Oblivion modding was huge, has fallout 3 taken the same direction? Would love to add some newer stuff to the game.

The latest patch helped me out a lot with crashes to desktop and made a few minor changes to things like VAT's. Not sure on the modding scene, not really bothered looking but i'm sure google can help you there.
I'd recommend you play the game again though, its an amazing game despite its several obvious flaws.

despite some glitches it is an amazing game . ive finished it twice on normal so ill start again on hard . the last game to capture me like this was painkiller.
