I get strange stuttering with 260gtx in fallout 3 usually when i am outside/wasteland and i move my mouse (turning stuttering) .

As far i can remember with 8800gts and 4870 1gig there was not any problem.

Apparently in bethesda forums mostly everyone has the same problem with nvidia cards, and the only way to fix it is to use 186.18 drivers ;/

Do any of you maybe know how to fix the problem without reverting back to older drivers ?

Ty

I'm certain this was listed as a fix in the last couple of of nvidia drivers release notes. It even mentioned outside scenes.

yes new nvidia drivers increased performance in fallout 3 since 195.xx , but i guess they did not fix the stuttering. using 196.21 my self

i tried so hard to fix this problem but honestly dont waste your time, stick with 196 or dont play it untill a newer driver fixs the issue

It's a game engine issue. The same thing occurs with ATI cards.

If you can keep a solid 60fps then there will be no stutter, but as soon as you drop below 60fps you will get an uneven output of frames, which looks "stuttery".

It's actually not just a problem in the wasteland, but with a GTX260 you will almost certainly be getting a constant 60fps+ framerate inside buildings etc, so it won't be apparent.

Ah, I had the same problem, thought it was lack of VRAM or something :(.

Thanks, going to try it.

yea im using those at moment and as i said still stuttering, i'll reinstall them again see if it works but i doubt it

duff-man is right used fraps to check ( in wasteland when u turn 180 degrees or so fps suddenly drops to 45 ish and then jumps back to 60) thats when stutter happens

in doors or towns is normal.

Edit :

Fixes that can Fix stuttering :

1. Reverting back to 186.18 driver
2. Lowering AA / AF or turning of it completely
3. Turning Water Reflections on medium or off

well i think i fixed that problem switching settings from ultra high to high did the job for me i think

I tried the newest drivers, they didn't fix fallout 3 but they did gave me artifacts in SC4 in hardware mode, to I reverted back to drivers from sep or nov 2009, and they work fine again.

If it works fine on 186.18 why did nvidia mess it up in all the later drivers then :( ?

I had this problem but it was with going into the VATS mode.

It is a bug in the engine but there is one super patch that fixes thousands of bugs. Cant remember the name of it but will find it when I get home.

It let me run the game with the latest drivers without any stuttering. Made lighting another other graphical glitches much better as well so was a bonus, Its not an official patch so make sure u backup your save files ect.

I've been playing this at 1920x1200 on my 8800GTX since last September - I've just completed Broken Steel.

I definitely noticed a degrade in perfromance since I loaded either the most recent drivers or the DLC. One of them is causing the dip. Especially where fire is displayed..
