Fallout 3 question

Since ive never completed any of the series..I got into a pickel...i stole something from a place..and everytime i spawn theyre chasing me and gunning me down and theres no other save..apart from vault entrance..i guess i start again?

I recall there being a cool down for most places. something like waiting on the order of 3-4 in game days. I think there are few places where people will be permanently annoyed, but cant recall any Vaults being like that.

in skyrim if you stole i believe the guards would try to arrest you first. perhaps they are just trying to do this?

If they're aggressive you could try putting your gun away, I can't remember if the same mechanic exists in FO3 but in FO4 if you steal something they just want it back.

The cool-off period is 72 hours without any contact. Just stay well clear and eventually they'll forgive you (except for Arefu and Paradise Falls, where you'll be banned for life).

But i keep respawning just as they chase me down..and it repeats

I did that once in Rivet City. Several score hunting rifle rounds and the odd grenade later, there was no one left to bother me.

But generally yes there is a cool-down period if you turn the population hostile.
