Fallout 3 won't start

Hey guys,

My fallout 3 game keeps crashing when i click on the start game option on the main menu. Just get a windows error saying that the game has stopped responding. :(

I have a legal copy before you ask :p

Running on Vista 64bit.

i had problems but that was the way steam had installed it.
try and run it as adminstrator and also disable visual themes,disable desktop
you could also try and run in compatilibilty mode for Windows XP.

By the way numerous ppl me included are getting a lot of random crashes i think a patch is needed
 
I find the game always crashes when I first started, but usually is fine thereafter. Had one crash in game but I think thats cos my virus checker kicked in.
 
I was having the same problem as you. I did a search online and found that quite a few people were in the same boat. I eventually found out that the xonar audio software on my computer wasn't compatible with the game, so I've had to go back to onboard sound drivers for playing it. It works, but is seriously annoying. A patch is needed! It seems that it's different problems on each machine though, as I tried to play it on the other computer I've got, it doesn't have a xonar soundcard, but still crashed when I started a new game :confused: If you go to the official bethesda site, on the forum, there are a few answers going around relating to this.
