Hi Guys

My stepson wants to upgrade his PC with the impending release of Fallout 4. His current specs are

Asus P7H55
Intel I3 540 (3.06ghz)
8gb Ram (unsure of brand/speed)
XFX HD6850
Corsair PSU (I think it's around 550w)

Does anyone have any suggestion on the best upgrades (budget around £200 at most). The motherboard is Matx so anything bigger would require a bigger case (currently in a Lian Li V351)

Happy to buy second hand through the MM which I think may be the way forward.

for your budget I think the MM would be best.

what ress would you be gaming at?

minimum spec of the game is a I5 2500k so going to the MM and getting a second had I5 2500K, mobo (depending on your current ram you maybe able to use this) would be good and then see how much you have for a new GPU after, again from the MM

the GPu minimum is a 7880 or 660 so you maybe able to get away with the GPU if you turn down some settings

could maybe do a wanted post and list what you are after and see what people come back with

Res wise I don't think we can be too fussy! It was a mid range pc in around 2011 so the fact it even still plays things today is impressive!

The ram is DDR3, I think it'll be the Corsair XMS range I think. Need to check proper specs though I think that should be reuseable.

Might be worth waiting to see how the game plays or at least wait for some review site to do some tests using various CPU and GFX cards to see what does best.

My immediate thoughts are a GFX card upgrade, the PSU is probably fine, a SSD may also help.

The minimum/recommended specs for Fallout 4 will not be released until late September at the earliest. By this time your money should stretch to something slightly better than you can get today.

There may be lots of people upgrading for FO4 so you may well find lots of bargains in MM around that time :)

Good idea only need another gazillion posts to enter it though. It's stupid you need such a large amount of posts to enter the MM , been a member for nearly 6 years and spent a small fortune with OC but I'm barred because I can't and probably never hit the 1k post mark.

His reply was to the OP who has over 1000 posts. The 1000 post rule is to deter scammers. I've personally been scammed on another site so feel a lot safer using the members market due to the high post requirements.

i5 2xxx or 3xxx with a Z67/Z77 board used would cost about £100/£120 used now, that is what I'd go for and add in a 250GB SSD for £80 with the money left over. Upgrade the GPU next year :)

if thats the minimum spec then i might need an upgrade, and i thought my 2600k would handle this game good or am i mistaken

Take minimum specs with a grain of salt. Personally, I doubt that sandy i3's will struggle with the game, regardless of what they say is "minimum". it looks practically the same engine as the previous games, though I suppose no-one can say for certain until it comes out.

I reckon devs are in cahoots with HW manufacturers to tell us the min specs are high in a bid to make us upgrade anyway.
