Fallout: New Vegas Oct 22

You try making a full-scale RPG in 9 months with Lucasarts breathing down your neck every step of the way...

As for these packs, typical of Betheseda...

It seems to be becoming typical of all mainstream RPGs...

I'm waiting for the inevitable release of Diablo 3 with 4 different rings and amulets depending on where you buy from

WOW, your soo UBER.

I Wish I posessed your l33t hacking skillz.

Haha...No. Did I mention that I'll be BUYING the game?

But yeah, I probably just shouldn't have wrote that. :o Still, the only time I 'acquire' is if I know the initial release will be extremely buggy/unstable (Obsidian particularly have a notorious reputation for this, besides being not at all familiar with Bethesda's heavily-modified version of the gamebryo engine) and incomplete, and then simply purchase later on. Never have I done so and not purchased, as I'm discerning and only bother with ones I know I'll enjoy and that the company aren't money-milking ******, and judging by my personal collection including over 200 games... Dirty pirate, I am not.

Well according to Josh Sawyer (project lead) @ E3, August-October is being spent testing\bug-fixing...

On a side note, I found KOTOR1 more buggy than the second, Malak turning untargetable and standing there being one example of a game-stopping bug. No idea on NWN2 as I haven't played it.

what would be great is if they had a version for £7.50 extra where you got all the DLC as soon as they come out

I'm going for the collectors box thing, as Fallout 3's was of such a high quality and the bobblehead and lunchbox are awesome and sit on display here, it's only right that I buy the New Vegas collectors box to go along side it.

To be fair £24.99 pre order on the PC isn't bad at all. At least compared with the likes of Modern Warfare 2...

No but they could easily equal MW2 with the likes of DLC. After all, all you can hope for then is they finish up and release a GotY edition or they have a sale that involves the DLCs since they never go down in price.

It would be a nice thought that they could make it so preorders got all DLC for free, THAT would be a preorder bonus, not this rubbish.

Item packs are rarely worth bothering with. Someone will make a better mod one in a few months...

Doubt anyone would bother beyond simply making all the packs available like they did with all the preorder items from Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age.

Short of doing proper alternative start mods that actually make these packs more than just random assortments of items its unlikely modders are gonna make the game easier to start with by giving you a pack of items.

Didn't Fallout 3 have a mod along those lines?

Yeah thats what i mean. These 'starter packs' sound like the perfect opportunity to have alternative starts that would be done officially and hopefully would be implemented more fully.

FWE had in it an alternative start mod that let you choose from anything from being a Raider (which meant Raiders weren't hostile and you started with some common raider gear), Brotherhood Outcast where you began with Outcast Power Armour and access to Fort Constantine(?) to stuff like a Refugee and Scavenger or Android and Regulator. Each start came with a certain set of gear with hostilities and alliances configured accordingly, but there was always the problem that you are still within the boundaries of the original game and as such, everyone kept calling you a vault dweller and referred to you as 'Dads' child and your primary quests and side quests were still the same as vanilla.

IF, and its a pretty damn big if, they were willing to put some more effort in and make alternative starts with a bit more background then it would be epic. But somehow i doubt they will. Even if it was in the form of DLC it would be pretty cool, assuming they didn't overvalue there own work...

bug testing a month before retail release?

So zero day patch at best then.

Yeah thats what i was thinking... The size of the patch will likely be a fantastic indicator of how much effort they put into it... if they even release it then.

Any hope this game isnt as badly optimised as Fallout 3? That game was so stuttery / laggy no matter how good of a PC you have.

No way of knowing till we hear some previews. Your better off waiting anyway, i wouldn't trust previews to really know about stability as far as i could throw them. User reviews will be far better. The preorder stuff is lame, theres no discount and its not far off till Christmas and Steams lovely sales.

I 2nd about waiting for reviews, Fallout 3 was ruined by sketchy performance and more importantly general bugs and game breaking ones too. The amount of problems I experienced through one play through was ridiculous if it wasn't one thing it was another at some points I didn't have sound and at the worst it didn't work at all. Many many people will agree and it also carried onto the consoles.

The game itself was good and I plan to buy this one as long as it works.

I didn't realise it took an entire month to distribute to retail...

Well, as long as they support the game, let's face it nothing this large is going to be perfect on release to be honest.
