Fallout: New Vegas

Just 'completed' it, ~42hrs playtime. Some major bugs with a couple of the quests relating to a task you have to perform at the Dam, ended up having to use some console command to get it to progress. In general there are way more continuity bugs in this than FO3, although maybe it's just the way I've played the game (keeping most sides except Legion onside until the very end).

Bit disappointed that there weren't more major fights, the only decent one I had was against Caesar and his minions at the Fort, and that was maybe only triggered because the way I was progressing the game was very much anti-Legion.

I have major problems with the Casador things and the Deathclaws, I just can't take them out and end up dying, I think I need to look at my weapons skill points!

Death Claws are no problems, you just stand in front of them with ED-E and Boone, equip hunting Rifle, and shoot them in the head.

For quarry junction, you just climb on the machinery (the conveyors) and the two larger ones cant get to you.
Annabelle is quite a useful weapon against them as well.

The Cazador's aren't much of a problem, I never ran out of antivenom. Just use VATS to shoot them in the wings with HP ammo, sniper rifle is ideal.

Deathclaws are pretty rare you never seem to have to face more than two or three at once. Key is to try and do some damage at range using iron sights before they close the distance then switch to VATS and a high damage weapon like Mysterious Magnum. Use Psycho/Med-X/Buffout/Rebound/Jet if needed, you should have a huge stockpile as very few fights need them.

Some general disappointments I found in the game:

Never really felt like I got to use much decent weaponry. In particular energy weapons are under-represented, I never found a Gauss Rifle / Tri-beam Laser Rifle / Gatling Laser, also I only got an Anti-Materiel rifle in the last half an hour of the game. The Plasma/Laser weapons all seemed a bit underpowered, I found a half-decent Q35 gun in Roboco factory or something but even that was nothing special. There didn't seem to be any decent automatic weapons, I had 9mm/10mm/12.7mm SMGs, All-American, Assault Carbine etc but none of them seemed to really do enough damage, kept getting that icon suggesting that enemy DT was too high. So basically the net result was that I just used Sniper Rifle nearly all the time and magnums up close.

Brotherhood of Steel seemed a bit underutilised, I did some quests for them and was expecting them to show up at the end of the game for the finale but they never did. Also never got any Power Armour training which was a bit of a shame, so only Boone got to wear it.

Mountains got very annoying, you know, the ones that blatantly you should be able to climb/jump over but there's some kind of invisible wall blocking you. There's one of the egg harvesting missions where you have to fetch Cazador eggs and I could never work out how to get there from the Red Rock camp, I'd spend like 20mins trekking round the side of mountains and end up further away from the map marker than when I started.

I take it you didn't visit the gun runners then? (or at least not until very near the end).

All the best weapons are available at either the gun runners (guns), or the Van Graffs (energy weapons). There are quite a few NPCs scattered around the wasteland that you can ask "where can I buy weapons?", and they all direct you to the gun runners, giving you a map marker.

55 hours till finish . nothing compared to fallout 3 . why cant you fast travel on the last bit , why are the graphics poorer than fallout 3 . what do i do with the game now , use it as a coaster . id like to bay it but obviously i cant so coaster it is . next time ill wait for the price to drop( on a steam game) then after ive finished the game ill have a cheaper coaster .

91 hours so far, still plenty to do. Leagues ahead of Fallout 3 for me, and more of a faithful sequel to the originals.

I agree that overall it's better than Fallout 3. The dialogue is better (seems grittier and more natural; a little less "forced"), and the faction-based reputation system adds a lot. The weapons and everything else generally seem a little more balanced, and there is more content.

But one area it's definitely lacking in is the radio... Three-Dog and Enclave radio were way better than mister New Vegas, and the range / quality of the music was much better in FO3. Black rock radio is pretty good, but isn't very widely available. Pity really, as to me this is the only area it falls behind in.

Agree on the radio, I have turned mine off and am just enjoying the in-game music. Does make a nice change to go somewhere and listen to their radio for a bit though. I liked most of the songs in Fallout 3 but none of the ones in NV have caught me.

Playing it through for the second time, you get through a lot quicker. I'm up to level 7 after 2 hours play already. I'm not hoarding so many weapons and keep selling grenades etc so have a lot more caps.

Does anyone find this game boring when you first start off?
Oblivion seems a much more enjoyable game. I've only played FO:NW a couple of hours though.

It took me a little while to get into it. Once you've met the major and minor factions and the quests come rolling in really it takes off.

My experience with Oblivion was the oppsoite - started off good, then got very dull and repetitive.
