Fallout: New Vegas

Did you have ammo issues early on in the game?

I certainly did... I think that was the biggest difficulty for me early on. My advice would be to buy plenty of ammo from whoever you come across, and keep several different weapons on hand (one for each ammo type). Once you find the gun runners you won't have ammo issues any more, but they aren't the easiest place to get to when you're low level.

There are certainly more sources of caps than in fallout 3, but if you want the good weapons and armour then you'll be paying out a lot more as well. Also, ammo is a lot harder to come by than in FO3, so I spent a lot of my early caps on that.

HINT HINT! ;)

Yeah, I saw that after I'd already posted :p Nevermind.

Anyone got a link to a guide to installing mods for complete idiots?. I have downloaded the Black Mountain Radio Anywhere mod but I haven't a clue where to put it?.

Extract Files

If the author put everything in a folder called "Data", place that folder directly into the F:NV folder and hit yes when asked to overwrite stuff. If the file aren't in a folder called Data, you just put the files (Usually a file with a .esp or .esm extension and stuff like Textures, Meshes or Sounds etc though this depends on the mod) directly into the games Data folder.

Example.

Mod 1 > Extract > Contains folder called "Data" > Place "Data" folder into F:NV folder and overwrite when asked.

Mod 2 > Extract > Contains folders called "Textures" and "Sounds" and a file called "Mod2.esp", place folder and file into the F:NV "Data" Folder, overwrite if/when asked.

If the mod has a .esp/.esm file, you need to activate the mod, open up the NV launcher, select "Data Files" and make sure the appropriate mod is checked, not all mods have this requirement.

Many thanks m8, that was the bit I was missing out. Black Mountain Radio Anywhere requires you activate via the Launcher. Sorted, ta.

Use Fallout mod manager to install and uninstall mods once installed open package manager and create a FOMM file from folder this way makes it very easy to activate/deactivte mods and it also makes back-ups of replaced files in addition to having mod load order sorting tool that helps with load order problems

i started a thread HERE with loads of other great mods for you guys to try out :)

I decided to get banned from the Tops, Gommorah and Ultra Luxe; I got my luck up to 8 (it was at 7 before) with the Naughty Nightwear and whenever I had a good hand, I would double down (i.e. if I had a 6 of diamonds and a 2 of clubs) and would normally get a King or other high value card, which maxxed the Bet from 200 chips to 400 chips and made me earn chips quicker.

Not sure what I'm going to do with my 48,000 caps, I might load an earlier save game or buy a bunch of implants because I have the achievement now (and it was great fun too!)

Does luck really affect playing games in the casino's?

It does. So it's handy to go to the clinic outside the strip too and get the luck implant.

After playing properly to get banned from the Gamorrah (which took ages) I decided to do it the cheesy way and bet all on one number at roulette and reload my save if I didn't win :p Then you pretty much get insta banned after your first all in win!

Would be good to know, I haven't got the game yet but I was thinking about having Charisma and Luck as a dump stat but now I might reconsider and starting with something like 5 Luck

Man....I'm gonna have to ban myself from playing in weekdays! Too many 1am finishes and early starts. Always plan to do 1 or 2 quests - only to get side tracked and engrossed in some other goal.

Although did get into the airbase last night, whilst looking for some other factions dead dude. After numerous attempts, got past the shelling, but found it amusing to see the different dismemberments that occurred.

Is it possible to do all side quests with a related skill requirement ie, medicine, science, repair etc? Am only lvl 12, so not all are up to some required levels.

They aren't bad choices as dump stats... Luck is most important for critical hits, but you can choose a perk to greatly increase your critical chance.

Regarding SPECIAL, I think the best thing to do is look through the available perks and decide which ones are going to be essential for you. Check what SPECIAL stat requirements they have (if any), and make sure you grab enough for the perk. You can increase each stat by one via implants. You can also increase via the "intense training" perk, but given that you only get a perk every two levels (as opposed to every level in fallout 3), it seems like a bit of a waste of a perk.

Intelligence is the most essential stat, to give you more skill points every time you level up. Each point in intelligence is worth an additional 15 skill points by the time you hit level 30.
