Fallout opinions

I really love the fallout games, only played the recent ones, liked them both, but NV is my favourite, played about 172 hours so far, have just reinstalled it so can give it another go from start to finish with all the DLC in the same play through, but want to finish sky rim first. Hopefully that will keep me going until fallout 4 is released. Hope it's good and not full of bugs when it's released.

Fallout 1 and 2 on Steam have censored intro's, cut children, and drugs are instead referred to chems (as based on the latest patched UK version), but it also does come pre-installed with a high-res texture pack of sorts iirc. None of these changes are too big and don't really have much of an impact on the course of the overall game.

People will defend these games for being the "true" fallout experience - maybe even the best, and for good reason, but they are fairly aged at this point and are completely different to what you will find the in later 3D renditions of the series - especially 3.

For me personally, Fallout: New Vegas is the best of both worlds, and is my favourite game out of the entire series (for a lot of reasons). It just feels more like a more well thought out and deeper RPG then 3 ever was. I can't be bothered to explain (:p), but this image circulates a lot around certain image boards when this discussion arises:

3 does have more favourable/higher reviews, mainly because it was people's first experience with Fallout, and it was a pretty impressive open world when it first launched towards the beginning of the last-gen console cycle.

Fallout 3 was so dreary looking which I know is part of it but I just didn't get into it at all but I am a little excited for FO4 and will give that a good look when it does come out.

Fallout 2 is by far the best, well worth a visit if you don't mind old games, fallout 3 just didn't live upto the name, I've heard new vegas is better, I should get around to trying it.
However what they showed off fallout 4, I'm well hyped.

fallout 2 one bests games i ever played , there is also resolution mod to bring resolution bit higher and unofficial patches that fix a lot of stuff

I would say Fallout 1 and 2 are the best ones, not even rose tinted glasses or anything, I just adore isometric RPGs. If you grab them, don't get them on Steam as there are some massively gamechanging mods (such as overhauls and 1080p enablers) that don't work on the Steam version. You can grab them cheap on GOG.com

Tactics is also worth a buy, but it's a linear-ish tactical RPG, not a lot of free roam but there is some. The graphics in it are really nice and the gameplay is massively more advanced than FO1+2, it has tactical breaching and all sorts. Sort of like Fallout x Jagged Alliance :D

Truth be told all 5 games are well worth a play, they are so vastly different and brilliant in their own rights that it's not logical to say 3/NV are better than 1/2/Tactics or vice versa.

Played them all and enjoyed them all. The first two are brilliant, BUT its whether or not you can put up with the graphics. If you can, they are definitely worth a play through (or ten)

fallout new vegas was lacking in some respects...but the ratslayer rifle was a king among guns!

Put up? They aren't anything special, but they're more than good enough, especially with the option of mods making them look better.

For some reason I find New Vegas empty, the map is big, but when you come across a building, its just an empty building In FO3 every building feels like an adventure.

Obviously there are places like Vegas city where there are many things to do but the rest of the desert just feels empty.

Enjoyed both games though.

FO3 is amazing, you won't lose anything by not doing 1 and 2.

I'm very very close to re-installing it and doing another playthrough ready for F04.
