I can get Fallout 3 running fine in windowed mode, but when I run it fullscreen, it doesnt last long before it crashes to desktop. So could this be a graphics driver related problem? Im running Vista 32 on a [email protected], 8800gts 640mb, 4gb RAM.
What is the difference for the drivers, to run a game fullscreen to running it in a window? Maybe knowing that would help me solve the problem. Thanks

Fallout 3 is very very gay with overclocked cpus. Mine runs fine with 266fsb, 333fsb but when trying above that it frequently freezes up. Something to do with the northbridge voltage afaik.
My thread is here:

thanks to both replies, Ive disabled anti aliasing and ran my cpu at stock, uninstalled then reinstalled but it still crashes so I dont know what to try now.

By the way, im at level 11 at the moment and its been fine up until about level 10 and now it ramdonly crashes especially in the science lab in rivet city.

This happens to me as well mate.

Fresh install of Vista 64 bit this week. Standard 2.4 Ghz Q6600, standard 8800GT with latest drivers, Vista all patched up nothing else. And I still get crashing in full screen mode.

Wish the developers would concentrate on ironing out this massive problem rather than push out DLC to try and coin in even more

Its reported all over the internet on various other forums and to my knowledge has not been acknowledged by the developers

I had a similar issue - another forum suggested it was my sound card driver... Update every driver you can think of & if you're brave enough your BIOS too, then hopefully it'll go away... I did & it works fine now.

The recent patch made the game stability far worse on my system.

I had no problems until I updated, now I get random hangs and crashes altogether if I alt tab to the desktop.

re

update graphics driver...make sure you delete the old driver properly using either drivercleaner or drivesweeper in safe mode

Thanks mate, at the moment fingers crossed it works by following your advice. Ive now learnt it makes good practise to totally clean out the drivers before installing new ones ;) Thanks again

happens all the time to me. Standard CPU settings, AA turned off, on, makes no difference. Still crashes.

Great game, but more like a beta version than something you'd pay for.
