Fallout3 stuck at the first part

I am stuck right at the beginning in the baby pen with the book, I simply can't drop the book when I have gone thru the pages to the end, I tried resetting the keys to default but nomatter what I press the game is stuck

I also can't seem to get the 1.5 patch installed properly as halfway thru it triggers the game to load -is this normal? :confused:

I tried two patches from different sources & both did the same.
I haven't been asked to type in my key at any point is this normal ? I have the retail game with the survival guide manual.
Apart from trying a cheat to advance in the game I can't move until I can drop the book. :mad:

Goto the last page...the keyboard cue to exit the book should be there?

It is there but it won't activate :confused:

you have to spend all your attribute points before you can exit

As Aloreth has said, the book is how you choose to spend attribute points, its not just a book. And so once you have spent all your available points you should be able to just continue on.
