False event 41 (Task category 63) event viewer reports

Maybe something is cuasing you PC to not shutdown cleanly, when you try to shut it down? Is there any other log before or after (might not be critical), which has a time of when the PC shut down? If there is, try to see what else happened at that time in the event viewer. Check the different categories.

You know I didn't even think of that tbh. I found this also 1 second before: https://i.imgur.com/FD5gzEI.png

The thing is I did more testing. It doesn't happen all the time (the event 41) so it does mean fast startup is working sometimes. Only thing I can think of is I shut my monitor completely off and since it's a G-sync display it's losing its connection to the state Windows saved for fast startup... idk a long shot.

Do you power off the monitor before or after the PC? What happens if you leave the monitor in standby mode?

It's hard to see if it's the monitor. All I know is that's 2 times I kept the monitor deliberately off until Windows was fully booted and the logs errors showed up.

I've just disabled fast startup and I'll see what happens with the logs in a week or so, getting paranoid at this point. Only slight disadvnatge so far is system shutdown is like 2-3 seconds longer than usual since I guess it's doing a proper stopping of all services, not some hybrid standby state.

The errors are happening before shutdown, not after startup.

Ah. I assumed Windows was logging this when it was booting up but that makes sense.

Anyway that's 3 times today I've shut down the PC with fast startup disabled and 3 times not a single error anywhere on event viewer in the 3 areas I have looked at. I have noticed now my shut down times are about 5 seconds (when I can see the Shutting Down spiral text thing) but with Fast startup it was more like 1 to 1.5 seconds. If I was to guess my PC was shutting down so fast that some drivers couldn't properly cope or suspend themselves all the time.

There was a video posted here a few days ago from Linus Tech Tips, about AMD (& Intel) low power states. I saw this article before I watched the video and wondered if they could be related. Having watched the video and read what you said, I think it probably is. This jist of the vdieo was, the CPU managing steady voltages for different power states is still not fully understood, which can cuase system instability.
