Family computer final spec chack

Just about to order a new computer for my parents, this is what I plan to get (sorry about it being so small):

Is there anything anyone would change about the main build or is it all ok, there will be pretty much no gaming on this computer and a little bit of video editing.

I hope to be able to take the processor to 2.4Ghz and the fsb to around 400, has anyone got experience with this motherboard and overclocking?

Will I need to order any cables with this or should they all come with the components?

That spec will be fine. Go for the 250Gb samsung for £6 more as it is very fast. The Evga mobo should be a decent mobo for overclocking as well. I would guess that the intel could probobally hit 2.4Ghz.

Thanks for the reply, is the 250gb hard drive a lot faster than the 160gb one as 160gb is proberly overkill for the pc anyway I will be suprised if it is ever filled over 100gb!

Can't change that at all really. maybe a CPU cooler if you want to clock it ?

For £7 more you can get he 800mhz geil ram, which i hear is good stuff.

Im hopeing it will go to 2.4ghz with the stock cooling, I'm sure there was a thread in the overclocking section where someone has one at 3ghz on stock cooling :eek:

If it doesnt go to 2.4ghz its not the end of the world.

I have the same Ram in my system and it will do 500mhz at 4-4-4-12 so I'm happy with it going that fast so will get it again, never used Geil ram but I have seen positive stuff about it dont think its really neccesary though in this computer.

Yes I have windows XP on a 80GB samsung and the 250GB samsung when I had xp on that was way faster. Also one 250GB samsung was just a little slower than two 80GB in raid 0. So 250 is worth it, plus I remeber reading in a magazine (custom pc) that the 250GB and 200GB model were faster than the lower space samsungs.

You'll be lucky to hit 2.4, my e6300 can just manage 2.1 on stock cooling, although it's crap ram and a crap mobo atm. Not the one in my sig btw.

The E6300 is a pretty good chip when paried with a good motherboard mainely from the Gigabyte range, and PC6400 ram. You can have it running at 2.8Ghz with the ram at stock speed's and stock timings.

Ok I think I will then thanks for the info, I was thinking that because they were in the same range they would be similar speeds. As you say its only £6 so might as well do it

If it cant get to 2.4 then it wont be a problem as its mainly used for the internet and office type work, I was considering getting an aftermarket cooler for it but I think I will see what the temperatures are like when I have it first.

I have mine at 3.3GHz on the stock cooler, idling at 28ºc and full load at 48ºc.

That really is insane when you think about how much it costs!

Out of interest what voltage are you putting through it to get that clock?

Funny thing that. I'm receving my DS3R tommrrow along with a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and PC6400 Geil 2gb dual channel ultra. You said having the ram at stock, isn't it linked together like 1:1? So if I get 400FSB then thats 400MHz (800 dual channel right)

The max multiplier on the e6300 is 7 so setting the fsb at 400 which is the Ram's stock speed and the cpu will be at 2.8ghz (7 x 400) if its set at 1:1 in the bios
