Family NAS Solution?

I was wondering if anyone else is in this situation and has a solution.

I want to build a NAS that my family can use remotely (3 spread out over the UK and 1 in Canada). I'm hoping for them to have their own private areas (approx 1TB each) plus a shared drive we can all access/upload to. I'm not too worried about upload/download speeds.

Is this possible? Can it be done with Unraid/Windows Server etc?

I know there are pre-built NASs available but it'd give me an excuse to build another PC! :)

Cheers

Nextcloud, but in all seriousness, you are reinventing the wheel - online storage from reputable providers (google, Dropbox etc) is free/cheap and likely quicker/faster. Running services on a home connection from the opposite side of the world is not my personal idea of fun.

This, use google drive.

Especially if it's to share pictures and stuff, it has so many features for that kind of thing it's too good to spend money on a NAS for this purpose.

As above another vote for google drive. Home server like a hp micro server makes sense if hoarding terabytes of films for viewing on multiple tvs etv

Came here to say similar, I use Office 365 Home - licenses office on all my families devices (Macs, Laptops, Desktops etc...) each with 1 TB of one drive. Well worth the money.
