I'm looking for software recommendations for doing our family tree. I know you can do them online but I'd prefer to have some software and keep it all on my PC. Can anyone recommend which software to use? Free would be nice but I'm quite happy to pay for it as well.

A guy I deal with uses he Mackiev software for family tree maker, seems pretty comprehensive, backups etc are all pretty straight forward too.
