Fan - 4 pin in 3 pin socket?

I am just installing my Thermalright Silver Arrow, and the two fans require a 4 pin socket, however I only have one on my motherboard.

I know that it can run on a 3 pin, as I tried it, but is it safe to do so?

Just use this:

It splits your single 4-pin socket into 3 4-pin sockets.

its safe to use a 4pin in a 3pin socket, the tooth/grooves should match up so that one of the end pins cann't be used. All you lose is fan speed control though PWM, you can still adjust the speed though voltage adjustments though.
